Colorful, Budget Sub-compact
December.2009

The Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS comes in a choice of 6 colors. Ours has a chic-looking matte-metallic orange color in the front and matte-silver in the back. The SD1200 IS is predictably Canon's: clean, elegant body design, and easy to use menu interface. It's comfortable to hold and responsive in shooting operations.

The camera's 2.5” LCD is a little small for current tastes, but it's excellent and we are happy with it. There's an optical view finder which we never use because it's too tiny. The menu interface is easy to use but one thing bothers us slightly: the selection of some scene modes could be clearer without having to press an extra button.

Image quality is very good for this type of camera, which is the big draw. With the current street price just under $150, the PowerShot SD1200 IS is a great value.
