Macau used to be a Portuguese colony and was returned to China in 1999. Often referred to as the Las Vegas of the East, Macau is the only city in China where casinos are legally allowed. Outside the casinos, however, we find a relaxed city with a charming mixture of the old and new, East and West - great for photography. Only a little over an hour away by high-speed ferry, it's a nice side trip from Hong Kong.
